Estate Security

How We Protect The Estate

The Grange is a private estate, but not a gated community. There are no barriers preventing trespassing, but we have installed signs at all entrances to notify the general public that they are not free to roam the grounds. At night, there is motion-sensitive lighting to protect residents and eliminate what might otherwise be dangerously dark corners.

By and large, we have relatively few problems with unwanted visitors but trespassing does happen, and there are incidents of anti-social behaviour by strangers falsely claiming to be residents.

We have taken steps to protect our residents and our environment. If you witness something bothersome then it is safest for you not to get involved, but instead alert our security team. One way to do this is via the link below. Fill in as much of the form as you are happy with.

We may be able to resolve the situation ourselves, or escalate as appropriate. Either way, we aim to maintain a record of these sorts of incidents, so that we can keep police abreast of the level of anti-social or criminal behaviour, and offer concrete data that may influence their patrols.

Involving The Police And Ealing Council

We have engaged with the local police and Ealing Council, raising our concerns about the safety of the estate. The Grange Estate is in an area that the police do not consider “high crime.” This is reassuring, but there are still incidents within the estate, and on its borders.

If you encounter any criminal activity, please call the police as you would do elsewhere. Calling 999 should be reserved for emergencies, but calling 101 can be used when the issue is less serious. It is not true that the police are powerless to act within a private estate. From their point of view, the estate is still deemed a “public place”.

There is also a weblink available for making a report online, which can be a more productive avenue if the issue is not urgent:

Councillor Kumar has also been involved in discussions with the board, and been a useful ally when looking at security issues beyond the limits of the estate.

The estate has some CCTV installed. As of January 2022, the board is examining options for increasing CCTV coverage.

The board takes security very seriously, and a significant proportion of the annual budget is allocated for it. We have our own security guard, Jimmy, who makes regular patrols of the estate, and reports to the board on anything he encounters.

Any residents concerned about their safety or security, be they shareholders or tenants, are encouraged to contact the board.
